TEN-T money must ensure no further delay to railway upgrade
Sinn Féin MLA Cathal Ó hÓisín has welcomed the multi-million pound package from EU funding towards the upgrading of the Derry Coleraine railway line.
Mr Ó hÓisín said:
“The awarding of nearly €14.5m towards the upgrade of the Derry Coleraine line is welcome news for the project.
“This project has been dogged by delays through lack of funding and an inability to access the proper signalling equipment among other reasons cited for delays.
“I would congratulate the Minister Danny Kennedy for gaining this money through the TEN-T funding from the EU as he faced competition from right across Europe
“However, this extra money needs to be used to ensure any upgrade now proceeds on time. We need to push ahead with this project without further delay so the North west region can benefit form an up-to-date railway system.”
