Hazzard welcomes Early Years funding despite Tory cuts
Sinn Féin MLA Chris Hazzard has welcomed a £1.1 million funding package announced for the Early Years Fund.
Mr Hazzard said;
"I welcome the announcement from Education Minister John O'Dowd that the Early Years Fund will benefit from a £1.1 million funding package.
"This funding will allow the existing services to continue until March 2016.
"I commend the minister for his efforts to save this vital service in the face of the continued Tory assault on vital public services.
"Tory cuts to the Executive’s block grant have put a huge strain on the Department of Education and other government departments in the north.
"Those cuts had put the Early Years Fund and the services they provide at risk.
"Yesterday’s budget was further evidence of the Tories’ complete disregard for children as they announced that Child and Working Tax Credits are to be slashed with more cuts to public services coming down the track.
"What the Executive needs is investment in vital public services such as education rather than the failed policies of cuts and austerity.”
