EU stands idly by while children suffer – Lynn Boylan MEP
Lynn Boylan MEP today met with Mads Gilbert the renowned Norwegian doctor who helped save so many lives during Israel’s murderous attacks on Gaza last summer. Mads was in Dublin to launch his book “Night in Gaza”, which is dedicated to charity.
Speaking after the meeting the Sinn Féin MEP said:
“It was a privilege to meet with Mads Gilbert in Dublin today. To listen to the real life stories from somebody who witnessed at first hand so much death and destruction in Gaza last summer was shocking. To listen to the facts and figures from the latest Human Rights Council report on the slaughter in Gaza, a report which Mads contributed to, was extremely disturbing.
“Can you imagine a place where a wholly man made situation has been allowed to develop where due to a blockade nearly 75% of children under 2 years of age are anaemic? A place where 33% of children under 2 suffer from stunted growth? A place where neo-natal fatalities have tripled in recent times and where children’s immune systems are compromised due severe malnutrition? Well there is no need to use your imagination – that place is Gaza, today, in 2015. This is a situation which is wholly preventable if the Israeli blockade of Gaza was lifted tomorrow.
“As an MEP I want to know when Israel’s cycle of violence towards Palestine will result in a response from the EU? The violence of last year is not new, it is a continuing cycle with only one difference each time – a greater number of deaths of the innocent, particularly 558 children and more firepower is used by the Israeli war machine on each occasion.
“At what point will the EU and the Irish government say “enough is enough” and insist on trade sanctions on Israel?”
