Dublin housing crisis out of control- Lynn Boylan MEP
Dublin Sinn Féin MEP Lynn Boylan has accused the government of burying its head in the sand in relation to the housing problem enveloping Dublin.
Speaking today the MEP said:
“The government really needs to get to grips with this problem before it becomes an even greater emergency situation.
“Every day there seems to be a new report showing an increased spend on emergency accommodation and housing waiting lists are now at the highest level ever.
“One element of this problem is the failure by this government to introduce any form of rent control or rent cap for the city.
“While every European city has its own nuances we should look at Berlin as an example of the effectiveness of rent caps.
“The city introduced new rent control regulation a month ago and already figures indicate that the price of rental contracts have dropped by 3.1%.
“I’m not saying rent controls alone will solve the housing crisis in this city but it would be a start.”
