Robbery of St Peters Cathedral an absolute disgrace

14 July, 2015 - by Fra McCann

Sinn Féin MLA for West Belfast Fra McCann has said those who carried out the robbery at St Peters Cathedral are the lowest of the low and must be caught.

 The Falls MLA said

“The people who entered the Cathedral and held a local priest at gun point before forcing him to show them around the presbytery and escaping with the weekends collection are the lowest criminal elements possible.

“The then left the priest locked in a room where he remained until 10 am this morning.

“The purpose is to put fear into the victim in this case a local priest who's only mission in life is to look after the spiritual and physical wellbeing of people who live in the community.

“This despicable act highlights the type of society we now live. I understand that those involved were not local to this community with strong Irish Brogues and may have travelled some distance to carry out the attack.

“I would ask any one who seen any suspicious activity to report this to the PSNI or some local community representative, these people need to be caught and removed from our streets,

“I am sure that local people will contact the cathedral and let the clergy know they have the full support of this community.”
