Concerns are being raised about the future of Clifden District Hospital according to Sinn Féin Senator Trevor Ó Clochartaigh.

Senator Ó Clochartaigh:

“I have been investigating concerns raised with me by Sinn Féin Councillor Tom Healy around the future of Clifden District Hospital. There are fears that services will be cut back, capacity reduced or that the hospital would be downgraded or even closed in the future.

“I understand that HIQA are in the process of renewing registrations of facilities like this across the country and that as a result Clifden District Hospital will need major investment if it is to meet the new standards.

“This could mean considerable capital development, moving from 8 and 4 bed bays to single and double rooms with ensuite facilities. In reality the most viable option would be to build a new 50 bed unit in Clifden and I understand that the HSE have a site earmarked locally and a plan for this.

“In the interim however, there is a real chance there could be bed closures in Clifden to comply with HIQA standards. A shortage of available nursing staff is also causing serious problems in the region and particularly in the western areas.

“I am calling on the Minister for Health to put plans in place for the capital development that would be necessary to ensure that the services being provided are maintained and improved and capacity at least retained at present levels, if not increased.” ENDS

Caithfidh an tAire todhchaí ospidéal an Chlochan a chinntiú – Ó Clochartaigh

Tá imní dhá léiriú maidir le todhchaí Ospidéal Cheantar an Chlochán, dar le Seanadóir Shinn Féin, Trevor Ó Clochartaigh.

Deir Seanadóir Ghaillimh Thiar – Maigh Eo Theas:

“Tá mé ag déanamh fiosruithe maidir le h-imní atá léirithe liom ag an gComhairleoir Tom Healy Shinn Féin, maidir le todhchaí Ospidéal Cheantar an Chlochán. Tá amhras ann go ndéanfar gearradh siar ar sheirbhísí, líon leapacha, go ndéanfar íosghrádú - nó fiú go bhféadfaí an t-ospidéal a dhúnadh amach anseo.

“Tuigtear dom go bhfuil proiséas athchláraithe náisiúnta ar bun an Údarás um Fhaisnéis agus Cháiíliocht Sláínte (HIQA) agus mar thoradh ar sin go dteastóidh infheistíocht mhór má tá Ospidéal Cheantar an Chlochán leis na caighdeáin nua a bhaint amach.

“Chiallódh seo forbairt shuntasach caipitil, ag bogadh ó aonaid 8 agus 4 leaba chuig seomraí singil agus dúbailte le h-áiseanna ensuite. Le fírinne, seans gurb é an rogha is réalaíoch ná go dtógfaí aonad nua leathchéad leaba ar an gClochán agus tuigtear dom go bhfuil suíomh in intinn agus plean dhá ullmhú ag Feidhmeannacht na Seirbhíse Sláinte chuige seo.

“Idir an dá linn áfach, tá baol mór ann go ndúnfar leapacha ar an gClochán chun cloí le caighdeáin HIQA. Tá ganntann banaltraí ag cothú deacrachtaí móra sa réigiún chomh maith, go h-áirithe sna ceantair is faide siar.

“Tá mé ag iarraidh ar an Aire Sláinte anois pleananna a chur in áit leis an infheistíocht chaipitil a theastóidh chun cinntiú, ar a laghad, go gcaomhnófaí  seirbhísí ag an leibhéal a bhfuil siad, nó go gcuirfí leo amach anseo.”
