EU should not fund Israeli groups which breach international laws - Anderson
Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson has said the EU should not be funding Israeli organisations, which are involved in breaching international human rights laws.
Speaking after sending a letter signed by 79 MEPs to senior EU officials, Ms Anderson said;
"There is widespread concern among Palestinian groups about some of the Israeli groups accessing funding from the Horizon 2020 program.
"Those views are shared by a growing number of MEPs who are concerned that current EU guidelines to assist international law do not go far enough.
"Palestinian groups have brought it to our intention a report by the Stop the Wall group detailing financial assistance given to Israeli military and security companies who are involved in violations of international law.
"I circulated a letter to MEPs outlining these concerns and that letter has now been signed by 79 MEPs and has been sent to Fedrica Morgherni, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs.
"The international community and the EU in particular have a responsibility to support the Palestinian people and challenges breaches of international law."
