Cllr Shane O’Brien launches Fair Recovery Campaign in Dún Laoghaire
Speaking at the launch of Sinn Féin’s Fair Recovery Campaign in Dún Laoghaire, Cllr Shane O’Brien said;
"It may be true that a recovery is underway in this State. However if it is, it isn’t a fair recovery as on the ground day in day out I struggle to find any citizens who are basking in the warmth of this so called recovery”
“Budget 2015 was Fine Gael and Labour’s chance to row back on the some of the many savage cuts they have presided over – for instance they could of halted cuts to one parent families, reversed the cuts to carers allowance or restore the respite care grant.
“Instead they chose to cut the top rate of tax for high earners. This Government’s theme is a two tier recovery.
"Most hard working and fair minded families throughout Dún Laoghaire will be forced closer to the brink due the vast amount of new austerity taxes and charges that have been implemented over the course of the last six years.
Cllr O’Brien concluded:
“Throughout our fair recovery campaign Sinn Féin will outline the type of country we want to see based on the right to affordable childcare, a fair and progressive tax system which includes the abolition of water charges and the unjust and unfair family home tax and access to housing for all our citizens whether that be in social or private housing”
