NTMA should release €500m to Dublin City Council- Cllr Doolan
Commenting reports today that the NTMA is making €500m in loans available to private developers, Cllr Daithí Doolan chair of the housing policy committee on Dublin City council has called for similar funding to be given to Dublin City Council for housing.
Speaking today he said:
“If this funding at this level was available to DCC we could immediately begin to remedy the acute homeless and housing crisis by providing affordable mixed tenure housing across the city.
If we had this kind of funding we would be able to immediately begin building 4000 houses.
“This is the State again providing loans to the captains of industry that contributed to the mess we are currently in.
“DCC is known for building high quality builds which unfortunately has not been the case with some private developers.
“While I welcome any initiative that seeks to tackle this housing emergency, this initiative will not meet the needs of those who need housing the most.
“It will do nothing to alleviate the housing crisis in Dublin.”
