Doolan takes anti incineration campaign to Europe
Sinn Féin Environment spokesperson on Dublin City Council, Councillor Daithí Doolan, has today committed himself , "to taking the battle against incineration to Europe."
Speaking ahead of a Sinn Féin delegation to Brussels, Cllr. Doolan outlined, „I will be raising the issue of incineration in Brussels with MEPs from across Europe. I will be taking the opportunity to brief MEPs on our campaign against incineration and for a Zero Waste strategy to be adopted here in Dublin.
Nobody doubts we face a waste crisis right across Europe, but you cannot simply burn and bury the problem as Minister for the Environment Dick Roche would have us believe. Europe must commit itself to radically reform our waste management structures. We must tackle the problem at the source through a programme of reduction, reusing and recycling leading to zero waste. Sinn Féin aim to play an integral part in this reform."
In conclusion Cllr. Doolan called on Minister Roche, "to abandon his flawed plans for incineration and join with us in leading the way in Europe towards Zero Waste." ENDS
