Kelly Report an opportunity to kick-start process - Cullinane
Sinn Fein’s Waterford based Senator David Cullinane noting the publication today of the ‘Kelly Report’ on the engagement and consultation process on a Technological University for the South East said:
“Hopefully, the publication of the Kelly Report will mark a new beginning
“This is a pragmatic report that makes sound recommendations for moving the process forward.
“I particularly welcome the recommendation that an Independent Chair be appointed to head up a Steering Group comprised of international academics, the Chairs and Presidents of Waterford and Carlow IT and two members of their respective governing boards.
“My Oireachtas report ‘the South East Economic Development Strategy’ which looked at strategies to address decades of regional underdevelopment identified a technological university in the South East as a critical factor in attracting inward investment and fostering growth in the region.
“Going forward, it is crucial that all stakeholders support the next phase of the project and that every effort is made to work collaboratively.
“Likewise, the government must do everything in its power to ensure the three year timeframe is achieved and that all aspects of the project are properly resourced.”
