O Reilly welcomes all party approach to Drugs Task Force funding in North Dublin
Dublin Fingal election candidate Louise O’Reilly has welcomed cross party support for a suggestion from the North Dublin Regional Drug & Alcohol Task force (RDATF) to request a meeting with Minister of State for Drugs Aodhán O Riordáin to discuss funding requirements for the Task Force.
This suggestion was brought to the July meeting of the task force and was met with approval by all present.
O Reilly stated:
“Drug and alcohol problems affect communities in a range of different ways.
“The North Dublin RDATF since its inception in 2014 has developed plans to address problematic drug/alcohol use in the three areas of, treatment/ rehabilitation, education/prevention and supply reduction.
“To date the task force has been successful in all three areas with a seminar taking place in May addressing substance abuse and mental health, which was addressed by Dr Adam Winstock, a respected expert in this field”
“It is through local projects across North County such as the youth services in Balbriggan and Swords, Community Care & Fingal Counselling that the task force tackles the problems of drug and alcohol addiction for the service users and their families.”
“The biggest challenges in providing these services is funding.
“The catchment area for RDATF is one of the largest in the State, so therefore the funding of the Task Force needs to reflect this.
“I think the work done by Brid Walsh and the team at the Task force with so little funding is phenomenal.”
