Momentum building on Casement redevelopment - McCorley
Sinn Féin MLA for West Belfast Rosie McCorley welcomed the building momentum toward advancing the Casement Park redevelopment project.
Speaking following today’s meeting of the Culture Arts and Leisure committee Ms McCorley said;
“I welcome the minister appearing at the Culture, Arts and Leisure committee today.
“Since concerns were raised about the Casement development the minister has acted swiftly and proactively to address any issues by commissioning two independent reviews.
“On the back of the technical review the announcement that the department is currently seeking a new Senior Responsible Owner for the project is good news.
“The minister confirmed this is the first step by her department to implement all recommendations in full.
“It is clear the review confirmed that the needs of the GAA in Ulster can be met through the redevelopment of Casement Park. With this in mind we are confident that this project can and should be progressed over the coming months.
“The review provided a clear framework for delivery of a first-class stadium for Gaelic Games and I would encourage everyone involved to carry out that work so the redevelopment can go ahead in consultation with the local community."
