Beaumont Hospital is not a business it needs serious investment–Councillor Denise Mitchell

27 August, 2015 - by Denise Mitchell

Beaumont-Donaghmeade city councillor and general election candidate for Dublin North bay Denise Mitchell is calling on the government to put a plan in place for serious investment in Beaumont Hospital.

She said,

“Beaumont Hospital is not a business; it needs serious investment over the next five years in the region of €200 million to bring its facilities up to standard.

We have inadequate beds, no proper facilities for doctors and the pancreatic transplant unit has fallen into disarray.

The Hospital is operating at 300 less staff since 2008 and the administration side of things needs more resources.”

She further added,

“The lack of step down facilities for patients is at a critical stage.  North Dublin has the highest rate of over 65’s in the Country and we are running at a shortage of approximately 2,000 beds for those that need long term care.

The current staff do an excellent job in patient care despite the limited support they receive from the Department of Health.

I feel that patient safety in North Dublin is being put at risk due to a lack of investment in the hospital and the government needs to address this urgently”
