Ruane welcomes business committee decision not to extend recess
Sinn Féin MLA Caitríona Ruane has welcomed the decision by the Assembly’s business committee to reject a DUP attempt to extend the summer recess until October.
Caitríona Ruane said:
“The DUP motion was essentially an attempt to suspend the Assembly by default.
“Today’s pantomime between the two main unionist parties is all about the elections and not about good government or meeting the real budget crisis facing our people, our economy and our public services.
“There is work to be done by all MLA’s; that is what we were elected to do.
“Sinn Féin will not be deflected from challenging the outworking of austerity, inequality and defending our public services and social protections.
“Sinn Féin will robustly resist any attempt at exclusion or to undermine the mandate of a whole section of our people.”
