Kelly welcomes conviction for online threats
Sinn Féin MLA Gerry Kelly today welcomed the conviction of a man who posted threats against his life on social media.
Mr Kelly, who attended the court this morning, said;
"I welcome the fact that a man who posted threats against myself on social media in 2013 has pleaded guilty in Laganside Court today and received an 18 month conditional discharge.
"The post said 'Time to put Gerry Kelly six feet under. Long overdue. No surrender, QS'. It is believed the QS is a reference to the UDA-linked slogan 'Quis Separabit'.
"It is important that social media is not used as a vehicle to threaten anyone. I brought this case to make people aware that if they make threats on social media they could be facing consequences including convictions in court."
