Enda Kenny has failed to show leadership over political process - Maskey
Sinn Féin MLA Alex Maskey has slammed Enda Kenny’s opportunistic attempt to score political points cynically using the killings of Jock Davison and Kevin McGuigan for electioneering at a speech delivered to the British Irish Association last night.
Speaking today Mr Maskey said:
“Martin McGuinness recently called on all political parties and the two governments to display leadership and to stop playing party politics with the brutal murders of Jock Davison and Kevin McGuigan in Belfast.
“In his comments last night an Taoiseach set aside that call and with one eye on the upcoming elections once again attempted cynically use these killing to attack Sinn Féin.
“An Taoiseach failed the leadership test and demeans his office when he puts blatant electioneering above the peace process. His comments only reinforce those seeking to exclude Sinn Féin and to undermine the agreements. These are not the comments of a government that is the co-equal guarantor of the agreements.
“The Sinn Féin leadership has worked hard and taken risks for the peace and political process. We will continue to do so regardless of the comments of an Taoiseach.”
