Minister Ó Ríordáin "desperate to distract from reality" - Cllr Mícheál Mac Donncha
Sinn Féin Dublin City Councillor and Dublin Bay North General Election candidate Mícheál Mac Donncha has said that Minister Aodhán Ó Ríordáin is desperately trying to distract from the reality of the Government's austerity regime by throwing false accusations at Sinn Féin.
Cllr Mac Donncha deplored the Minister's attempt to play party political football with the refugee crisis.
Cllr Mac Donncha said:
"On RTÉ News at One Minister Ó Ríordáin outrageously accused Sinn Féin of being silent on the refugee crisis.
“We have made repeated calls for the Irish Government to do more and for refugees to be welcomed here in much greater numbers.
“We have initiated and participated in public events in solidarity with refugees and in appeals for practical support.
“We have a long record of opposition to the direct provision system.
"Minister Ó Ríordáin is doing a disservice to the office he holds by trying to turn this humanitarian crisis into a party political football.
"Minister Ó Ríordáin also claims that Sinn Féin do not want to be in Government.
“This farcical claim is made because he wants to distract from his Government's austerity regime.
“For the same reason he has tried to exaggerate a minor incident at the Vincent Browne's 'People's Debate' in order to distract from the fact that he was trounced in the debate on the issues - housing, water charges, jobs and cuts to social services."
