Closing of Boyers & Co another sign of the government’s tiered recovery- Cllr Janice Boylan
Following the announcement that Boyers & Co on Dublin's Talbot Street will close its doors in January with the loss of 83 jobs, Cllr Janice Boylan has condemned this governments attempt to suggest we are enjoying a full economic recovery.
Speaking today Cllr Boylan said:
“The closure of Boyers after the recent closure of Clery's is a massive loss for the North Inner City. Not only have we to bear the burden of more job losses, but we now face another empty building lying idle once the closure takes place.
“This cannot keep happening. It seems to always be the communities most affected by the austerity the government heaped on the country are the ones who keep suffering.
“What I am hearing time and time again from the people in the area I represent is "where is this so called recovery?" They haven't felt any change, in fact some people are reporting that they are worse off.
“When we have a government only looking out for the top level of our society i.e. the people earning the big bucks, we have a problem. Not having a fair recovery plan to put in place directly effects the most vulnerable in society. These people cannot be expected to bear the brunt time and time again. They have nothing more to give.
“When we have iconic business closing down left right and centre in the middle of our capital city, we are not recovering and government parties telling you we are obviously have their own interests at heart and not mine or yours.”
