Adams slams Micheál Martin's call for suspension of Assembly

10 September, 2015 - by Gerry Adams

Sinn Féin Leader Gerry Adams has slammed a call by Fianna Fáil Leader Micheál Martin for the suspension of the North's Assembly.

Gerry Adams said:

“Not content with a series of offensive, untruthful and inflammatory statements recently which have contributed directly to the current crisis in the North, Micheál Martin has now called for the political institutions to be pulled down.

“Mr Martin's remarks are incredibly stupid and irresponsible.

“Closing the institutions will not resolve the current difficulties; will not benefit the talks process. However, it will harm the community in the North and undermine public services.

“Most people can see through Mr Martin's cynical opportunism which is all to do with the Fianna Fáil leader’s concerns about the electoral advance of Sinn Féin in the South.”
