Councillor Denise Mitchell welcomes joint collaboration between Beaumont Hospital and St Vincent’s University on Pancreatic transplants
Beaumont Donaghmeade Councillor Denise Mitchell and General election candidate for Dublin North Bay has welcomed the news that Beaumont Hospital and St. Vincent University have begun a joint collaboration to ensure a future programme for Pancreatic Transplants.
“I have been very concerned for some time about the closure of the Pancreatic Transplant unit in Beaumont hospital.
"No transplants have taken place this year despite there being three patients awaiting pancreas transplants and four patients awaiting pancreas and kidney transplants.
"The news that Beaumont Hospital and St Vincent’s University are coming together to develop a sustainable national pancreas transplant unit within the next month will come as a great relief to those patients on the waiting list.
"The plan is to have all future pancreas transplants take place at St Vincent’s which is currently the National centre for Liver Transplant and for the treatment of pancreatic cancer."
"I would hope with this news that arrangements can be made as soon as possible to have all patients cared for and all necessary operations carried out immediately”
