North Belfast supports or fire services - Ní Chuilín
Commenting as the people of the New Lodge rallied in support of Fire and Rescue workers after a weekend attack on them, local MLA Carál Ni Chuilin said,
“We are here as a united community showing solidarity with the Fire and Rescue workers that were so viciously attacked in this area at the weekend.
“We felt that it was important to make a public stand against that tiny minority of criminals that have so outrageously turned on emergency service workers coming to the aid of our community.
“Our message is one of solidarity with the workers injured and we wish them a speedy recovery.
“The message is also one of welcome from the New Lodge community to ordinary people providing essential services to our neighbours in times of crisis.
“Logic and reason unfortunately doesn’t come into it at times like these for the criminal elements responsible. This was a mindless act by individuals attempting to wreck this area and the PSNI need to act to bring them before the courts.
“Today is about the New Lodge community, younger and older, residents and activists, political representatives and workers alike having our voices heard in support of the Fire and Rescue service.
“This incident must be given the utmost priority, lives were at risk and it could be any one of us needing emergency help at any time.”
