16 September, 2015 - by Phil Lynam

Sinn Féin Swords Cllr Philip Lynam has had his motion calling for Fingal County Council to recognise the homeless crisis passed at the full council meeting.

Cllr Lynam said:

“I am calling for Fingal County Council to recognise the homeless crisis. There are over 4,000 people homeless in either emergency hostels or selective hotels throughout the state.

“The truth is that this government is simply not doing enough to build proper social housing that could decrease the number of people on the housing list across Dublin.

“Families are really struggling, in some cases they are struggling to get kids to school and back while they stay in unsuitable conditions in hotel rooms with no facilities to cook a simple dinner. I

“It has been estimated that the cost of putting one person in a hotel for a month is €3,000.

“I am calling on the Chief Executive of Fingal CoCo to write to Minister Alan Kelly for more funding in this year’s to be released so we can be serious about this homeless crisis and to tackle it head on.”
