Caoimhghin Ó Caoláin shows support for INMO demands
Sinn Féin Health Spokesperson Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD today attended the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation demonstration outside Leinster House in support of the reversal of the cuts to Intellectual Disability Services and the restoration of the required staffing levels, including the Registered Nurse Intellectual Disability (RNID) grade.
Deputy Ó Caoláin spoke with INMO General Secretary Liam Doran and the INMO’s Industrial Relations Officer Tony Fitzpatrick, as well as several RNIDs who are employed at the St John of Gods centre at Drumcar in County Louth.
Speaking to reporters afterwards the Sinn Féin TD said;
“I am here today to not just record my support for the INMO’s efforts to highlight the dramatic cut over recent years in funding and resources to the Intellectual Disability sector, but to commit to do all I can to help reverse these cuts and to draw more and more political attention to the important, indeed essential, role that RNIDs perform over the lifetime of those in their respective care, regardless of the setting”.
