Congress Charter for Fair Conditions at Work welcomed by Senator David Cullinane
Sinn Féin spokesperson on workers’ rights, Senator David Cullinane, has welcomed the Congress Charter for Fair Conditions at Work which outlines key principles to achieve fair work conditions and a decent income.
Senator Cullinane said:
“I welcome the Congress Charter as a key platform to help bring about much needed reform in the area of workers’ rights as well as supporting the necessity of a living wage.
“There are five key principles which I believe can achieve the goal of honouring workers’ rights. These are: a living wage, fair hours of work, the right to representation and collective bargaining, the right to be treated with respect at work and fair public procurement.
“As rapporteur of the Jobs Committee, it is my aim that a comprehensive all-party policy document is published in October.
“This is an ideal opportunity to develop a broader based view on what constitutes fair conditions of work, a perspective which sadly is too often overlooked by the policy makers and employers of this country.”
