Kearney meets Vernon Coaker at Stormont
Sinn Féin National Chairperson Declan Kearney met with the British Labour's newly appointed spokesperson on the North, Vernon Coaker.
Speaking after meeting Mr Coaker alongside party colleague Pat Doherty MP, Mr Kearney said;
"At the meeting we discussed the current crises facing the political process, chief among them the austerity policies of the British government and the absence of a workable budget for the institutions.
"We asked for an intensified engagement from him in his new role and impressed on him the need for as much pressure as possible to be brought to bear on both governments for a successful outcome to the talks process.
"We urged him to press the British government to return to the principles of the Good Friday Agreement and outlined that the North has special circumstances and this should be recognised as such.
"Sinn Féin will continue to work with all parties to secure a successful outcome to the current round of talks."
