Joe Reilly welcomes Dáil Committee to Co. Meath
Sinn Féin candidate for the Meath by-election, Councillor Joe Reilly has welcomed the Dáil Environment and Local Government Committee to County Meath. The Committee have travelled to Co. Meath to inspect the proposed route for the controversial M3 Motorway. Cllr Reilly said, "It is good to see the Committee taking an active interest in this issue. My hope is that they will reserve some time to go and see the proposed alternative route as well."
Speaking from Meath today he said:
"I would like to extend a warm welcome to the Dáil Committee that has travelled to Co. Meath today to inspect the proposed route for the controversial M3 Motorway. I would also like to thank them for taking the time out of their busy schedules to come here. My hope is that they will reserve some time to go and see the proposed alternative route as well.
"The Committee must take on board the views of eminent archaeologists from Ireland and abroad who have expressed their dismay at the proposed route. Archaeological test trenching proved that there are many more archaeological sites on the route of the proposed motorway than initially claimed.
"The reality is that the route through the Tara/Skyrne valley is not the place for the M3. There is a viable alternative route that can and should be adopted. I hope the Committee will take this on board and urge the Government to re-route M3." ENDS
