B&Q job losses a blow to local economy – McKay
Sinn Féin MLA for North Antrim Daithí McKay has said the loss of 300 jobs with the closure of five B&Q outlets is a huge blow to the local economy.
Speaking today the chair of the Assembly’s Finance Committee said:
“This is devastating news for B&Q workers in Ballymena and elsewhere that five stores will close by the end of 2016. It is also a huge blow to the overall local economy.
“Certainly given the loss of 300 jobs this will hit many people and their families.
“What we need to do in the immediate term is to maximise redeployment to Screwfix and other Kingfisher Group outlets.
“Outside of that we need to ensure those who are laid off are given every support to maximise their retraining or potential to get new employment.”
