Solutions must be found for Longboat Quay residents – Cllr Chris Andrews

30 September, 2015 - by Chris Andrews

Local Sinn Féin councillor for the Pembroke-South Dock area Chris Andrews has this morning called for immediate intervention in the crisis facing Longboat Quay residents who have been told to come up with €4million in less than a week so that remedial works can be carried out.

Cllr. Andrews said:

“The Longboat Quay development has significant problems and solutions have to be found urgently to address the issues that have been identified relating to sub-standard adherence to fire safety regulations”.

“There have been serious question marks raised in relation to building standards in much of the Docklands area over the past number of years, particularly in developments that were constructed as social and affordable housing, which the Longboat Quay development contains a sizeable number of”.

“The demand now being placed on residents to foot bills upwards of €18,000 each to fund remedial works is entirely unrealistic and there must be immediate intervention from all of the stakeholders here to find a solution to the problems identified, including from Dublin City Council and the Dublin Docklands Development Authority, as well as the Minister for the Environment.”
