Adams meets Greek PM Alexis Tsipras
Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams TD and Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras met in New York last night.
Speaking afterward the Sinn Féin leader said:
“I very much welcomed the opportunity to meet and congratulate the Greek Prime Minister on his very successful election campaign.
“I briefed him on the current political situation in Ireland and he outlined the next challenges facing the people of Greece.
“Much of our conversation focussed on the two big issues in Europe at this time; debt and refugees.
“The humanitarian crisis in the Mediterranean region and now extending into central and northern Europe is the greatest human tragedy facing Europe in recent decades and it demands greater international co-operation and allocation of resources if it is to be addressed effectively.”
