EU love affair with lobbyists must end - Boylan
Sinn Féin MEP Lynn Boylan today stated that the EU institutions must sit up, listen and reform their poor levels of transparency.
'It is simply unacceptable that a staggering 70% of EU citizens believe that corruption is present in the EU institutions and instead of acting to fix the problems the EU has rested on its laurels.
'I have therefore drafted and submitted amendment to an EU transparency report to call for stronger measures which will allow civil society to shine a light on the often murky world of EU decision-making.
'I have proposed measures to tackle; conflicts of interest, the voluntary lobbying register and the constant revolving door between the EU and private industry. It is essential that serious reform is now implemented on how EU institutions conduct their work and engagement with lobbyists. I therefore call on other MEPs to support my proposals to keep EU officials in check.'
