Staffing Shortage at Beaumont Hospital is very worrying –Councillor Denise Mitchell

1 October, 2015 - by Denise Mitchell

Beaumont-Donaghmede Councillor Denise Mitchell and General election candidate for Dublin Bay North has said she is shocked to learn the depth of staff shortages in Beaumont Hospital.

She said,

“It comes as no surprise to me that staffing levels in Beaumont Hospital are low but to discover that there are 143 posts short is just not acceptable.

The majority of these shortages are in the Nursing, Clinical and Support area with a shortage of 62.00, 26.10 and 24.68 respectively.

The Minister for Health is failing patients and current staff.

The pressure that Nurses and Doctors must be under to provide a basic level of service is enormous.”

She further added,

“The Minister needs to address these staffing levels immediately.  Beaumont Hospital cannot be expected to continue a decent level of patient care with such staffing shortages.

The government recently announced a €27billion capital programme which is very much needed but unfortunately most of the general public are sceptical if it will ever be delivered.

It now needs to announce a health strategy and provide details of how it is going to turn around the mess it has made with the health service.

Hospitals need to be staffed adequately for the wellbeing of all of us and future generations. The current situation is very worrying”
