MP shock at death of elderly man in Coalisland
Martin McGuinness MP MLA for Mid Ulster has expressed his deep shock at the burglary at the home of an elderly brother and sister near Coalisland which has left the brother dead and his sister badly injured. Mr McGuinness offered his condolences to the family on the death of Mr Mc Grath and wished Miss McGrath a speedy and full recovery.
Mr McGuinness said, "This apparent burglary was a brutal attack on vulnerable elderly people. I would urge local people to be vigilant and look out for elderly neighbours who are clearly an easy target for this type of incident. I am shocked and abhorred that individuals in our society are so devoid of feelings that they can find subjecting our senior citizens to this brutality acceptable. At this time of year - a time of goodwill and giving - it is particularly sad to hear this news and even more distressing to realise that it was as a result selfish thuggery against elderly people.
"While it is as yet unclear as to the cause of Mr McGrath's death I understand that his sister has suffered physical injury and no doubt trauma from this incident. I extend sincere condolences to the McGrath family circle and wish Miss McGrath a speedy and full recovery."ENDS
