'Out and About' initiative will bring museum collections into local communities
Sinn Féin MLA Oliver McMullan has welcomed the ‘Out and About’ initiative launched by the Culture Minister Carál Ní Chuilín that will allow museums and libraries to work together to put on exhibitions.
Mr McMullan said,
“This is a wonderful initiative that will allow museum artifacts to be put on show on local libraries bringing history and education into the heart of local communities.
“As museums tend to be situated in major cities and towns many people from rural or smaller urban areas have little opportunities to see major exhibitions or have to go to great expense in order to do so.
“Allowing both the library and museum services to work together to bring exhibitions into the heart of communities will give the opportunity for many more people to see them.
“In this period of the decade of centenary commemorations it is very important in terms of education and understanding of our history that all communities have access to major exhibitions on their doorstep.
“The two services can compliment each other as people who view the exhibitions can then access books on the topic to follow up on their interest of the topic.
“The Minister Carál Ní Chuilín needs to be congratulated for this initiative that will bring museum collections into the heart of communities.”
