Minister Alex White has questions to answer about his role in An Post dispute – Cullinane
Sinn Féin Senator and Workers Rights Spokesperson David Cullinane today called on the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources Alex White to explain his role in the decision to suspend postal services.
Senator Cullinane said:
“Minister White told the Dáil last Thursday that An Post had a contingency plan to deal with any dispute. Was the Minister told the plan was to shut down the entire postal system and if so did he agree with this?
“If he was told something else can we expect consequences for senior management at An Post? Also, why did the Labour minister not make any effort to contact the Communications Workers Union during the dispute?
“It’s beyond belief that a Minister and senior management at An Post would operate in such a reckless manner.
“Their actions put nine thousand jobs in jeopardy and damaged public confidence in An Post. No private company would behave is such a cavalier way and management in An Post must be held to account.
“The Minister has questions to answer in relation to his role in this debacle.”
