Rural Development Programme surpasses expectations
Sinn Féin MLA Declan McAleer has welcomed the news that over 1000 jobs have been created through the Axis 3 of the Rural Development Programme (2007-2013).
Mr McAleer, a member of the Agriculture and rural Development Committee said,
‘The Rural Development programme was set up to tackle poverty and inequalities in services and infrastructure within rural communities and so far this programme has exceeded expectations.
“At the DARD committee meeting this week it was confirmed that Axis 3 of the RDP has now exceeded the 1000 job creation mark. This is an amazing achievement and a huge boost for the local economy.
“It was also revealed by senior officials that there has been a 100% spend representing a huge investment of £100m in the social and economic development of rural areas.
“I would like to congratulate the DARD Ministers, Michelle Gildernew and Michelle O’Neill who have introduced the initiative and contributed to this success over the past few years.
“It is expected that the new Rural Development Programme will open for applications in January 2016 and I'm calling on rural dwellers to engage with their Local Area Groups to maximise the benefits of the new Rural Development Programme for deprived rural areas.”
