Fearon to speak at Palestinian Youth Conference in Copenhagen
Sinn Féin MLA Megan Fearon will travel to Denmark next week to speak at the international Palestinian Youth Conference in Copenhagen.
Speaking ahead of the conference, Ms Fearon said;
"Young people have suffered hugely as a result of the Israeli occupation and ongoing military aggression in Palestine.
"Children and young people bear the brunt of the brutality of the Israeli military as we saw last week with the killing three young Palestinians, including 13 year-old Abdul Rahman Shadi, who was shot dead in his school uniform in Bethlehem.
"As well as facing direct violence, young people in Palestine also have their education and opportunities severely limited as a result of the recent Israeli onslaught and occupation.
"In Gaza in particular, children and young people are growing up in what is essentially an open-air prison.
"But despite all these challenges and provocations, Palestinian young people have displayed great resilience, not just in challenging the oppression they face, but also by standing in solidarity with young people facing injustice throughout the world.
"This conference will be attended by an international audience of politicians, activists, and academics and the guest speakers will include the former Prime Minister of Denmark, Poul Nyrup Rasmussen.
"The international community have a key role to play in supporting the people of Palestine, including its young people, and in opposing ongoing Israeli military aggression."
