Kearney welcomes ICTU challenge to Irish government over talks
Sinn Féin National Chairperson Declan Kearney has welcomed comments from the Irish Congress of Trade Unions that the Irish government has a critical role to play in the ongoing talks in the North.
Mr Kearney said;
"I welcome the call from the Irish Congress of Trade Unions that the Irish government has a 'critical and constructive role to play' in resolving the current challenges facing the Executive.
"It is clear the British government bear direct responsibility for the current political crisis as a result of its policy of slashing hundreds of millions from the Executive's budget.
"But the Irish government also has a responsibility to build on the peace and political processes as co-guarantors of the Good Friday Agreement.
"The involvement of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions is welcome and shows the role and responsibility that wider civic society have to play in opposing austerity and helping to ensure workable and sustainable budgets and protect public services."
