Supporting peace needs to be Irish government priority – Adams

11 October, 2015 - by Gerry Adams

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams TD has said the Irish government needs to live up to its responsibilities as co-guarantor of the Good Friday Agreement and make supporting the peace process a priority.

Mr Adams said;

"Since the Irish government came to power progress in the north has not been a priority and their policy is dictated by Fine Gael and Labour opposition to Sinn Féin.

"The Taoiseach has failed to uphold the agreement the Irish government has signed up to. Instead agreements have stalled and been unpicked.

"He has failed to challenge the British government on their refusal to provide information on the Dublin and Monaghan bombings.

"The Taoiseach and Tánaiste have supported the Tory party cuts to welfare and to public services. They supported them because it is also their policy.

"The Taoiseach and Tánaiste need to be on the side of the Good Friday and other Agreements.

“Progress can be made, but we need the Irish Government to make the north a priority."
