Sinn Féin support Finucane family in search for truth
Sinn Féin MLA Chris Hazzard has welcomed the decision by the family of Pat Finucane to appeal a decision that British Prime Minister David Cameron acted lawfully in refusing to hold a public inquiry into his killing.
Mr Hazzard said,
“A public inquiry into the murder of Pat Finucane by a loyalist death squad acting controlled and directed by British state forces was agreed at the Weston Park negotiations in 2001.
“However, so far the British Government has failed to live up to its responsibilities and refused to hold it.
“I welcome the decision by the family to appeal a decision made earlier this year that British prime minister David Cameron acted lawfully in not holding an inquiry.
“It is well established that British state forces colluded with the Unionist death squad which carried out the killing of the human rights lawyer.
“The Finucane family have once again shown fortitude and dignity in bringing this case back to the courts.”
