Up to 100 Syrian refugees to arrive by Christmas - McCann
Sinn Féin MLA and Junior Minister Jennifer Mc Cann has outlined plans for up to 100 Syrian Refugees to arrive in the North before Christmas.
Speaking at an event to highlight the global refugee crisis this morning in Belfast Ms McCann said,
"The sheer scale of the human suffering we are witnessing as a result of the current refugee crisis is horrifying and has to be a concern for us all.
"Every day we see thousands of individuals and families flee from war, conflict, persecution and poverty, many sadly losing their lives as they try to make their way to safety.
"The public response to the crisis right across the island has been truly inspirational as local people have shown their support in both practical and other ways.
"Up to 100 Syrian refugees are expected in the North before Christmas as part of a 5 year plan which will see more integrated into society here.
"It is essential that once they arrive they are supported and have access to the services that they need."
