Cllr O’Brien calls for extra funding for Homeless services as figures rise by nearly 400%
Sinn Féin councillor and general election candidate for Dún Laoghaire Shane O Brien has called on Dún Laoghaire- Rathdown to provide extra funding for homeless services in the upcoming budget.
Speaking today Cllr O Brien said:
“From 2013- 2014 the number of people representing as homeless to the council has increased by almost 400%. This worrying trend has continued into 2015.
“In order to make meaningful attempts to stem this rising homeless epidemic the council needs to put more money into homeless services.
“However this will only offer a temporary solution.
“This government’s chaotic approach to housing policy is not helping people and until it commits to a social housing build, homeless figures are just going to keep rising.”
