37 patients waiting on trolleys this morning in Beaumont Hospital –Cllr Denise Mitchell

28 October, 2015 - by Denise Mitchell

Dublin Sinn Féin city councillor for Beaumont-Donaghmede ward Denise Mitchell and general election candidate for Dublin Bay North has said that it is a total disgrace that 37 people are waiting on Trolleys in Beaumont Hospital.

Speaking from Beaumont she said,

“There are currently 37 patients on hospital trolleys in Beaumont Hospital. This figure is due to rise as the day goes on.

This is a total disgrace and it is quite clear that the government health strategy is not working.

We have a situation in the hospital where there is a staff shortage of 143 and there are 39 beds closed.

How can we expect the hospital to operate at an adequate level if we do not resource it adequately?

She further added,

“Beaumont Hospital is traditionally now becoming the worst in the state when it comes to waiting lists and people on trolleys.

Statewide we need the recruitment of 4,000 additional nurses in our health services.  There needs to be massive recruitment drive and nurses that were forced to immigrate must now be encouraged and adequately remunerated to come home.  This is not just about money, it is also about working conditions and all these issues must be addressed.

As we approach the colder period we need to tackle this issue immediately or we are going to be in a much more serious position in the hospital
