Kelly Appeals for vigilance after Downview home burglary

29 October, 2015 - by Gerry Kelly

Slamming burglars who ransacked the home of a North Belfast pensioner, local Sinn Fein MLA Gerry Kelly said,

“The reports of the home of a North Belfast pensioner being burgled are extremely worrying and I’m appealing for people to be very vigilant.

“In an utterly disgraceful experience It’s my understanding that the home of a pensioner in the Downview Mews area was ransacked by men reportedly searching for tablets.

“I’d appeal to anyone with information or who witnessed anything suspicious in the area around 7pm on Wednesday evening to come forward to the PSNI.

“Burglaries are a huge concern for everyone and particularly in the time approaching Christmas there seems to be an increase in these crimes.

“I would urge all residents to put in place sensible measures to reduce your chance of becoming a victim of such crimes.

“I would also point out that people shouldn’t become prisoners in their own homes but that by putting in place minor precautions it will make you safer in your home.

“There are many agencies and charities that will provide free advice on most efficient cost effective measures to secure your home.

“We will be raising the issue of burglaries with the PSNI to ensure an effective strategy is in place to tackle these crimes and bring those responsible before the courts.”
