Irish language Titantic Quarter lectures welcomed
Sinn Féin MLA Rosie McCorley has welcomed the initiative between PRONI and Foras na Gaeilge to explore the history and culture of the Irish language.
Ms. McCorley said,
“The lectures will take place in the Titanic Quarter in Belfast over a four-week period beginning 4th November and will consist of talks on Irish language poetry, place names, folklore and Irish speakers in the nineteenth century.
“This is the second year that PRONI and Foras na Gaeilge have come together to develop understanding of the language and I look forward to it continuing in the years ahead.
“Although the talks will be in English they will allow people to discover the richness of the language and Irish classes will also be available on the day prior to the talks.
“These lectures are an opportunity for people right across society to come along and have some of the myths about the Irish language dispelled as the language belongs to everyone and threatens no one.”
