Fearon welcomes passing of Children's Services Bill
Sinn Féin MLA Megan Fearon has said the passing of the Children's Services Bill is a victory for children and young people.
Speaking following a debate on the final stage of the bill, Ms Fearon said;
"This is a good day for families and for the children's sector.
"It is important this legislation places an onus on departments to work together, improving services for children and young people and challenging the silo mentality which has frustrated progress in the past.
"Placing requirements to cooperate in statute will ensure the interests of children and young people are put first across all services and responsibilities.
"It is important children and young people and their representatives will be consulted in future so their voices are heard.
"I also welcome the fact that an amendment I tabled calling for all reports produced as a result of this bill to be taken into account during the drafting of the Programme for Government.
"This is an important step forward for children and young people and I look forward to seeing it rolled out."
