Ferris calls on Commissioner Hogan to increase dairy intervention price
Sinn Féin Agriculture Spokesperson Martin Ferris TD has called on EU Commissioner Phil Hogan to take action to increase dairy intervention prices, which remain at the same level as they were in 2003.
Deputy Ferris said:
“There will be another farmers’ protest in Brussels this week, and although Irish farmers will not be travelling on this occasion, they are under real pressure.”
“Dairy farmers are continuing to feel the pressure as prices are below the cost of production for many farmers. This is having a terrible impact on farm businesses and many farmers are stressed and worried thinking about how they will survive as dairy farmers in the future.
“Sinn Féin, North and South, has called for a rise in the intervention prices to help the sector survive this crisis. Phil Hogan needs to take heed of Irish farmers, before the sector is totally damaged.”
