Concern at City Hospital Trolley waits

10 January, 2005

Sinn Féin Health spokesperson John O Dowd MLA has voiced deep concern about the number of trolley waits in Belfast City Hospital over the past weekend.

Mr O Dowd said

"On Friday the hospital was coping with 27 trolley waits which fluctuated over the weekend with the hospital coping with 17 on Sunday. It appears this

was due to a backlog of discharges from the City Hospital into community care due to the prolonged Christmas holidays.

"The holiday period has clearly caused problems for the hospital which is still affecting the care of incoming patients. I would urge both the hospital trust and the community trust to ensure a speedy resolution to the continued trolley waits. The question remains however as to why there appears to have been no contingency plan in place over the Christmas period which inevitably leads into the winter pressure period." ENDS
