Roche workers must be protected and supported - Noeleen Moran
Sinn Féin's Clare General Election candidate Noeleen Moran has said that the workers at Roche Manufacturing AG must be afforded every protection and support as they face the loss of their jobs.
"This announcement is devastating news for the workers, their families and the wider community. It will have a devastating impact on the local economy as Roche has been an employer in Clare since the early 1970s.
"My concern is now with the immediate welfare of the workers. Redundancy payments must be fairly negotiated and any standing arrangements must be honoured.
"It is vital that everything possible is done to protect these workers. They must be supported as the face into this very uncertain period.
"This situation jars with the government's line that they have created an Ireland to which our emigrants can return and work. There is still a frightening level of disparity in regional economic development. It is hard to watch as this administration launches glossy plans, five years into their term, while our communities are ravaged with such jobs losses."
