Modular Housing on Belcamp must not replace permanent housing plans- Councillor Denise Mitchell
Beaumont –Donaghmede Councillor Denise Mitchell has said that the 38 Modular Housing Units in Belcamp must not be a replacement for a permanent social housing programme on that land.
Speaking ahead of the North Central Area Committee this Monday she said,
“We have many local families staying in Hotels and B&B’s around the area. This is not acceptable. These families deserve long term good quality homes.
Many have been forced into homelessness due to increases in rents in the private rented sector.
The modular housing planned in Belcamp is a short term measure to get families out of emergency accommodation and into a more stable environment.”
She further added,
“I am a little concerned that this site was picked given nearby residents had been given a commitment by Dublin City Council that there would be a social housing building programme on it.
I will be asking management for a guarantee at Monday’s North Central area meeting that the modular units will not replace any building programme in the area and I will be requesting a detailed plan for building in the area in the near future.”
